Accidental Purchase in Playstation and Getting a Money Back and Keeping the Game
LIVE – Updated at 17:11
UPDATE (5pm, Friday): The PS5 is available online at Currys and in-store at Smyths Toys . It is also available at some branches of Game. The console has sold out at EE , PlayStation Direct and Littlewoods . It could restock at Argos in the coming days. Read on for more information.
It has now been over a year since Sony's latest console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5), first landed in the UK. But supply problems and a worldwide semiconductor shortage sparked by the coronavirus pandemic have caused the production of the device to slow to a crawl. New stock is still tricky to find and, when it does appear, the PS5 sells out quickly, both online and in-store.
It's your last chance to bag a console before Christmas, and it looks like retailers are pulling out all the stops to ensure one is sat underneath the tree this year. So far this month, we've seen restocks at Smyths Toys, Currys, PlayStation Direct, ShopTo, Very, Littlewoods, Game, Currys, Studio, Argos, EE, BT and Amazon.

The PS5 is now in stock at PS Direct
Thursday 16 December 2021 10:13 , Alex Lee
The PS5 is now in stock at PlayStation Direct. There is a waiting room at the moment, so you've still got time to get in there before the buying gets started.
Luckily, it's not first come first serve like a lot of other retailers. You get given a random unique ID once the countdown ends, meaning you don't know what position in the queue you'll be in when the consoles drop. Take that, scalpers!
Make sure to have your PSN credentials at hand or you won't be able to buy the console.

EE PS5 stock is now live via add to plan
Thursday 16 December 2021 10:15 , Alex Lee
The PS5 is now in stock at EE! To get the console, you need to be an EE pay monthly customer and it's only available via EE's Add to Plan service, which you will pay over 11 months interest-free. You also have to pay £10 upfront.
You can either get a standalone PS5 disc edition console for £40 a month (Ee.com); a PS5 with an additional dualsense controller for £45 a month (Ee.com), or a PS5 disc edition console with an additional dualsense Controller and a 12-month PS Plus subscription for £50 a month (Ee.com) – all spread out across 11 months.
Buy now from EE
In previous EE drops, the website has been a bit glitchy and hasn't shown the console as being in stock. If that happens, we'd recommend trying to buy the console through the My EE app instead.
- In the EE app, open the hamburger menu and hit 'plans & add -ons'
- Toggle add-ons and hit 'Get more add-ons'
- Scroll down to 'Accessories'
- Tap on 'Shop'

The waiting room has closed and the queue is open! Everyone's time estimation is "more than an hour" for the first ten minutes or so and then it resets, giving you your *actual* queue position.
Remember though, it's not always reliable. The time estimation tends to fluctuate wildly. Hold on tight, grab your PSN credentials and good luck! Let us know if you manage to bag one from the retailer.

Thursday 16 December 2021 11:23 , Alex Lee
The PS5 has now sold out at PlayStation Direct. Well done to anyone who managed to secure one this morning. We're pretty sure the retailer is going to have one or two more restocks before Christmas, so fret not if you failed to bag one this time round.

The PS5 is in stock at Littlewoods
Thursday 16 December 2021 11:45 , Alex Lee
UPDATE: This has now sold out
The PS5 is in stock at Littlewoods, but as usual, the retailer has heavily inflated its prices. Stock will last quite a while, but we'd recommend purchasing a console from another retailer if you're not in a hurry.
Littlewoods is selling the disc edition for £589.99 – that's well over the recommended retail price, but we'll let you make the decision on whether to buy it or not.

Face plates are finally coming to the PS5
Thursday 16 December 2021 12:34 , Alex Lee
Sony will finally let people change the colour of their PS5 with official face plates. The new cases come in a range of options, including black, purple, red, blue and pink.
It means that the existing off white outsides of the PlayStation 5 can simply be popped off and have the new one put in its place, Sony said. Have a read of our news piece below for more information:

Argos PS5 stock could drop tomorrow
Thursday 16 December 2021 13:20 , Alex Lee
Despite Argos already dropping consoles last week, the retailer could be set for another disc edition restock tomorrow, according to @PS5StockAlertUK, who has moles inside the Argos warehouses.
If it does drop, you should be able to order it online and in-store, but going in-store is always your best bet. Argos's website isn't the most reliable when it comes to stock counts. We'll let you know if we hear more.

Which games console is best?
Thursday 16 December 2021 14:30 , Alex Lee
With so many competitors on the market, from Xbox to Nintendo, it's hard to know which console to invest in.
Sony's cutting edge console is certainly a standout that has several advantages over its direct rival, the Xbox Series X – including its DualSense controller with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.
Sony's PS5 exclusives are also impressive withMarvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the kid-focusedBugsnaxboth instant hits upon release and upcoming games such asHorizon Forbidden Westand the forthcomingGod of War Ragnaroksequel eagerly anticipated.

Best PS5 games
Thursday 16 December 2021 15:20 , Alex Lee
Need some games to go with your shiny new console? We've rounded up the best PS5 games already for your perusal.
In the bestsellingSpider-Man: Miles Morales(£44.99, Currys.co.uk), Peter Parker is replaced with his awkward teenage protΓ©gΓ©, Miles Morales. A next-generation spin-off,Spider-Man: Miles Morales refines the original's formula," our reviewer said. "This is a streamlined adventure with a more focused story, far less busy work and an endearingly clumsy protagonist still getting to grips with his powers."
Meanwhile,Demon's Souls (£57.99, Currys.co.uk) on PS5 is a showcase of what the new console is capable of. "The oppressive gothic architecture, yawning arches and festering dungeons of this cult classic look spectacular on the new hardware, while remaining faultlessly faithful to the aesthetic and vibe of the original game," our tester said.

A recap of today's PS5 restock events
Thursday 16 December 2021 17:00 , Alex Lee
We weren't expecting to see that many restocks today but the the righteous path of a PS hunter always takes us to unexpected places. We had four drops today from EE, PlayStation Direct, Smyths Toys in-store and Littlewoods.
If you weren't able to secure one, fret not, Argos could restock the console tomorrow morning. Join us then for the all the live updates. Ciao for now!
Happy Friday!
08:09 , Alistair Charlton
Good morning, PS5 hunters, and happy Friday!
Yesterday was another bumper day of PS5 restocks, with consoles arriving at EE, PlayStation Direct, Smyths Toys in-store and Littlewoods.
As for today, we're hearing that Argos could be having a restock – and, given how the week has gone so far, anyone could spring a surprise restock on us in time for the weekend. Here's hoping...
Will Argos have a restock today?
08:21 , Alistair Charlton
It was originally thought that Argos would have a morning restock today. But now, according to the well-informed folk at PS5 Stock Alert UK, the drop has been pushed back to "early next week". This is reportedly owing to a shipment of PS5 digital edition consoles just arriving, so they'll be distributed to stores and warehouses over the weekend, before joining the disc edition consoles for a restock next week.
With all that onboard, it looks like Argos will have a nationwide restock of both versions of PS5 console early next week.
π° Exclusive: The possible Argos drop has been pushed forward to 'early next week' due to a shipment of Digital Edition consoles that have arrived, meaning, the digital consoles need to be distributed over the weekend. https://t.co/T4kz8vgqd8

When did Argos last have a PS5 restock?
08:28 , Alistair Charlton
As we wait for Argos to announce its PS5 restock, which could happen as soon as Monday, here's a quick look at the retailer's console restock history.
Argos last had a PS5 restock on 10 December. Before that, according to our records, Argos had PS5 consoles available to buy on 14 and 30 September, 20 and 27 October, and 18 November. This isn't the most consistent of restock records, and sometimes Argos has stock only in certain parts of the country. We hope the restock on Monday will be nationwide and give everyone a fair shot at buying a console.
Will we see more Game restocks before Christmas?
08:39 , Alistair Charlton
Game has only had one restock so far this month, on 14 December. But if its performance in November is anything to go by, then we can expect to see several more console drops before the end of the month. Game has restocks on 4, 17 and 30 November with the majority of consoles available in the morning, followed by a second, smaller restock each of the three afternoons. We saw a similar thing from Game in October too.
All that means we hope to see more PS5 consoles available from Game before the end of December.
Do Game shops have PS5 stock on the shelves?
08:51 , Alistair Charlton
Some do, yes! Several branches of Game have received handfuls of PS5 consoles this week. The deliveries are somewhat sporadic and they usually sell out in a matter of hours.
Console availability is often broadcast on Twitter, with each Game store having their own account to tweet about stock. So far today we've only seen news of PS5 stock at the Cannock branch, but we expect to see more throughout the day.

How to get a PS5 voucher code from BT
09:06 , Alistair Charlton
BT is giving its customers a helping hand when it comes to securing a PS5. Instead of throwing open the virtual doors and dealing with a stampede like other retailers, BT sends out unique voucher codes to its customers.
If you are a BT TV customer, for example, or subscribe to BT Sport, you can apply to receive a PS5 voucher code. These are emailed out sporadically and can be used to access a PS5 next time the BT store has a restock. You still have to pay the regular price, of course, but this system is a neat way of rewarding BT customers and giving them a better chance of securing a console.

If you're looking for an Xbox series X as well as a PS5 (someone's in for a fun Christmas...) then you'll be aware of just how difficult that console is to buy too.
Thankfully, the IndyBest team is here to help. We have a live blog running to help you find an Xbox series X too, regularly updated with all of the latest UK restock news.
And, just as the PS5 came back into stock at Currys, the Xbox series X has arrived too!

PS5 consoles arrive at select Game stores
09:47 , Alistair Charlton
As expected, several branches of Game have a handful of PS5 consoles available for walk-in customers to buy right now.
So far, we have spotted limited stock at these Game branches:
- Scarborough
- Northampton
- Doncaster
- Rhyl
- Mansfield
- Ashford
- St Austell
- Didcot
- Plymouth
These consoles tend to sell out very quickly, so it is worth calling up your local store to check they still have stock before visiting. They also tend to be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and cannot be reserved over the phone or online.
Is Smyths Toys due a PS5 restock soon?
10:08 , Alistair Charlton
Smyths had an in-store PS5 restock earlier this week, on 16 December. But those consoles have since sold out. The retailer's website says fresh stock is due "TBC 2021" which hopefully means we'll see an online restock before the end of the month. Unfortunately Smyths is being no more specific than that for now.
Can you buy a PS5 directly from Sony?
10:43 , Alistair Charlton
Yes, but the recently-opened PlayStation Direct online store currently has no PS5 consoles in stock. That said, Sony regularly replenishes its PS5 supplies, with this month seeing restocks on 6, 9, 14 and 16 December. These followed no fewer than five restocks in November.
We don't know exactly when more stock will arrive, but give how regularly PS Direct has been restocked so far, we're hopeful for more consoles before the end of the year.
Can you play PS4 games on PS5?
12:00 , Alistair Charlton
You sure can! The overwhelming majority of the PS4 games you own are playable on the PS5. You'll be able to download any games you bought through the PlayStation store on your PS4 and play them on the next-gen console.
If you've got the disc edition of the PS5, you'll also be able to insert your PS4 discs into it and play them that way, too. Obviously, because there's no physical disc slot on the digital edition of the console, you won't be able to play any PS4 discs you own. We've compiled together a list of our favourite PS4 games, and most of them have dropped in price since the PS5 came out.
What's the difference between the two models of PS5?
13:03 , Alistair Charlton © Provided by The Independent (Sony)
Sony sells two versions of the PS5. These are known as the disc edition and the digital edition. They have the same performance, design and technical specifications, but the digital edition does not have a disc drive. This means games can only be played by downloading them, and obviously there's no way to play DVDs or Blu-ray movies.
The digital edition is also cheaper, at £359.99 compared to £449.99 for the disc edition.
How big is the PS5?
14:01 , Alistair Charlton
Not as strange a question as you might think, because the PS5 is massive. It's often an easy joke to say how big the next generation of game consoles are, ever since the chunky original Xbox arrived, followed by the even bigger PS4.
But, while the Xbox series X is also rather large, it's the PS5 that is least likely to fit under your television. The digital edition is slightly slimmer, due to not having a disc drive, but both consoles are equally tall when stood on end.
They are 390mm tall and 260mm deep, while the disc edition is 104mm thick and the digital edition is 92mm. Both consoles are intended to be stood upright, but also come with a plastic stand to help them rest on their side – likely the only way most buyers will fit the console under their TV.

If handheld gaming is more your thing then check out our review of the new Nintendo Switch OLED. The console features an OLED display for the first time, which is larger than before and produces punchier colours and deeper blacks. There's also a redesigned kickstand and double the internal storage of its predecessor.
Our reviewer said of the £309.99 console: "The larger display is fantastic and playing games in handheld mode is an absolute joy. The kickstand feels so solid and makes us never want to look at that little toggle on the back of the original Switch ever again...this is absolutely the best version of the console yet."
The best 4K TV for your new PS5
15:02 , Alistair Charlton
While we wait for the next PS5 restock, it's time to think about upgrading your television. The PS5 outputs video at 4K resolution and can even handle games running at 120 frames per second. That's something not all TVs can manage, so if you want to see your new console running at its best, a new TV could be worthwhile.
We've rounded up nine of the best 4K TVs available right now, from manufacturers including Samsung, LG, Sony and Panasonic, among others. And the great news is you don't need to spend a fortune to get a great 4K television – prices of our favourites start at under £400.

PS5 stock lands in-store at Smyths Toys
16:36 , Alistair Charlton
Here we go! Just before we sign off for the weekend we bring you news of PS5 digital edition stock landing in-store at Smyths Toys. By our count, some 17 stores across the UK have consoles in stock, although more could be added as the Smyths website is updated.
Some shops have just a handful of consoles, while others have "15+", which is what the site says when there's a good amount of stock available. To be clear, this is the PS5 digital edition and these consoles are available in-store for walk-in customers.

Live blog signing off
17:00 , Alistair Charlton
It's time to bring the live blog to a close for another week, and we leave you with good news – a PS5 bundle restocked at Currys earlier today is still available! What's more, some branches of Smyths and Game currently have consoles on their shelves, with the chance of more stock arriving over the weekend too.
It's been a great week for PS5 restocks and we really hope the good news will continue as we approach Christmas.
Enjoy your weekends, stay safe and we'll be back again on Monday morning for some more PS5 hunting. See you then!
