Spawning [ ]
Parrots rarely spawn, with a 0.2 risk in jungle biomes. They can be found in groups of 1–ii at Y-level 70 or to a higher place. They spawn only on logs, leaves and grass blocks.
Drops [ ]
When a parrot is killed, it drops:
- 1-2 feathers . The maximum is increased past 1 per level of Looting, for a range of 1–v with Looting Three.
- 1–three when killed by a player or tamed wolf.
Behavior [ ]
Movement [ ]
Parrots are passive. They can fly, and usually fly up if struck. They fly under normal conditions, merely they can tire[1] and render to the footing.
Parrots crowd and settle around other nearby mobs, including neutral and hostile mobs.
When in h2o, a parrot swims past flapping its wings.
Like chickens, parrots flap their wings and autumn slowly, preventing autumn damage.
Taming [ ]
Parrots can exist tamed by feeding them wheat seeds, melon seeds, pumpkin seeds, or beetroot seeds, with 1⁄10 chance of success. One time tamed, interacting with a parrot makes it sit down and stand.
Like tamed wolves and cats, a tamed parrot follows the thespian unless told to sit, and may teleport if in that location is a sufficient altitude between them and the player. Similar all tamed animals upon expiry, a decease message is displayed to its owner.
Parrot teleportation is completely silent, which is intentional.[two]
Dissimilar near animals, parrots have no infant form, and cannot exist bred.
Perching on shoulders [ ]
A tamed parrot on the ground can be made to perch on its thespian's shoulder past moving through the parrot. On its own, a tamed parrot can as well wing to and perch on the actor's shoulder, unless it has been told to sit. A actor can take one parrot on each shoulder. Parrots always prefer a player's left shoulder first, if it is empty.
A parrot dismounts its player when the histrion:
- does not land on a high-enough surface (1⁄two block upwardly or higher)
- drops off a ledge of college than 3⁄four of a block
- takes damage
- submerges the player'due south feet into the water of any tiptop
- starts drowning
- sleeps on a bed
- submerges the histrion's head in lava (the parrot dismounts and burns fifty-fifty if the player has Fire Resistance)
Parrots on a shoulder always await in the same management the player'southward head is looking.
A parrot on a shoulder cannot accept any damage just may become injure as soon as it dismounts, as when dismounting a histrion submerged in lava.
In Boulder Edition:
- A parrot sitting on the shoulder appears in the inventory interface.
- A parrot sitting on a shoulder prevents the thespian from entering a Nether portal.[3]
Imitating sounds [ ]
Parrots imitate the idle sounds of nearby hostile and certain neutral mobs (including the hiss of creepers for example); they have a detection range of xx blocks (cubical). The audio produced by the parrots is simply the same sound as the mob being mimicked at a higher pitch. They tend to look in the management of the mob they are mimicking. Occasionally, a parrot may imitate sounds of mobs that are non in the area.[four]
Dancing [ ]
Parrots trip the light fantastic toe near a jukebox if a music disc is inside it. Parrots even have the ability to trip the light fantastic while on a actor's shoulder.[ Be only ] This is a reference to the Party Parrot meme.[5] The game does not seem to have any real style to determine when the music ends, though; as long as the disc remains in the jukebox, the parrot continues dancing even after the music stops.[6]
The dancing radius is 3 blocks from the jukebox. If they trip the light fantastic toe then wing beyond this radius, they cease dancing. A parrot does non trip the light fantastic if the music disc was inserted prior to it spawning, dismounting, or existence within the 3 blocks range.[vii]
Cookies [ ]
In Java Edition, attempting to feed a parrot a cookie instantly kills it, emitting Poison particles as it dies. In Bedrock Edition, feeding a cookie to a parrot gives it fatal poison instead. This is a reference to the fact that chocolate is toxic to parrots.
